In “Missing Your People,” Tracy Brower explains the importance of belonging. Describe a time when you felt like you truly belonged. What created that feeling?

Prompt Response: A time I felt like I truly belonged was when my friends made a deliberate point to include me in what they were doing. We were hanging out in a group, and instead of just talking among themselves, they pulled me into the conversation and asked for my opinion. What created that feeling of belonging wasn't just being in the same room with people, but thinking that my presence was noticed and valued. This helped me feel comfortable and accepted, which is the kind of meaningful connection Tracy Brower describes when talking about the power of belonging.

Summary: Today in class we read, completed multiple choice questions, and a free response question based on the Common Lit called "Missing Your People."

Reflection: This gave me a new perspective on why connection and community are so important in our lives. Answering the multiple choice questions helped me double check my understanding of the article's main points, and the free response helped me connect how scientific research supported her claim.

Prompt: After reviewing the feedback on your argument essay, identify one thing you did well and one area you need to improve. Explain what you will do differently the next time you write an AP Lang argument essay.

Today, we learned how writers create a clear line of reasoning by connecting a claim, evidence, commentary, and conclusion. Which part of building an argument is most challenging for you, and why?

Think about a time when you made a claim or gave an opinion, but someone asked you, “Why?” or “How do you know?” Describe the situation. What evidence did you use to support your point, and why is explaining your evidence just as important as providing it?
